Your '72 is a C body, as are all '67-'74 Imps. No such thing as a "Y" body, Y is the code for MAKE (C for Chrysler, D for Dodge, P for Plymouth, W for Coronet, etc.)
Not really. I've usually heard them considered D bodies
67-68 Is still it's own animal, almost nothing interchanges with a C body, body, brakes, frame, suspension even wheel bolt pattern is all different.
'69-73 are similar to C bodies, but have a longer wheel base with a different front frame and longer T bars. Still have their own brakes and bolt pattern. Similar body and interior though.
'74-75 are pretty much the same as C bodies. They lost their uniqueness by then, the 75 Imperial styling was then used for 76-78 New Yorker.
