I had the same problem, and just posted my fix a couple minutes ago. I ended up going with a Billet Specialties polished aluminum jobby, with the O-ring, and it works flawlessly. I am sure that had I decided to keep the old one - a chrome piece - and sand the surface, that would have worked too.
