what is the proper way to prime an engine before start up?

Take out dist/intermediate shaft, Home Depot has a 5/16" paint stirrer shaft for cheap. Take out/off the plugs/valve covers & have someone turn the crank slowly w a breaker bar & 1&1/4 socket while you man the drill up top until both rocker arm assy's get their oil. Then I take off the rocker arm assy's & (re)goop up the lobes/lifter bottoms then bolt the rocker arm assys back on to make sure I have PLENTY for startup and that too much didn't get wiped off in the crank turning ordeal. A bit excessive maybe but after thousands in time/money into it getting a bit anal at the very end doesn't bother me especially when it's SO close to fireup time. EDIT On your bench grinder trim/smooth several inches of the rod & wrap it w black electrical tape where it goes thru the bronze bushing to protect it.
