I have 6" cowl front carb has about 3/4 clearnace. Both carbs are maybe 2" from from top. Car does not pull like it should in second an high gear. Would it help if i had holes in front of scoop with an air pan?

The 2" isnt bad but I prefer more space... if you dont
have a pan to seal off the carbs I would do that first.
In a conventional scoop you would like the air horn
about 3/4" below the bottom of the inlet of the scoop.
A ideal entry is also preferred on each carb to help
let the air make the 90% turn instead of a shear.
If you can see in the cowl.... a little test is to
tape a bunch of 2" long pieces of yarn in a bunch
of places under the top of the cowl to see the air flow
(cheap wind tunnel testing)
