also, you may just find a little polishing of the contacts is all it needs. i have run into that several times over the years.

Mick you can order the plunger but in the mean time pull it and open up the solenoid , you'll probably see it's pitted , clean it up and that may be all it needs?


Had a similar issue on the direct drive starter my 64 300 had. Ended up flipping the copper disc around and all was good.
