Many do not know that Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson strongly lobbied the then newly formed US Congress to make law that the new Money and Measurements to be used in the United States would be in groups of ten, or “Base 10” .

$ US dollar would have ten dimes and dime would have ten “cents”

US mile would be 1000 yards, yard would be divided by 1000, etc

( here it is worth mentioning the old Roman “mile” was 1000 human paces - in Latin “mile” means 1000 - and there were 5000 Roman “feet” to their mile. An old Roman mile was about 4860 of today’s USA feet)

Congress made the new money Base 10,
but couldn’t get the votes to create new Base 10 measurements and weights for the USA.

A few years later the French Revolution created the Metric System with
10,000 Kilometers from North Pole to Equator,
and 1 cubic centimeter of pure water equalling 1 newly defined “gram”
