Silicone RTV is the the mis-used chemical in the automotive marketplace. Simple rule-of-thumb: Never apply RTV over/across a rubber gasket. It should only be used as a filer of gap .. such as intersecting corners of multiple gaskets (intakes, oil pans, etc.... just a little dab to fill the gap. Rubber gaskets are always best installed DRY.
