Unless you have programs that won't run on it, Linux operating system is the way to go. No need for additional security or blockers.
If you're just browsing the internet and getting emails...this is the fix. I run Linux Mint on a VERY old laptop with Chrome and Adblock Plus. I see ZERO ads anywhere on the net. Linux comes with Firefox and Thunderbird for email. It also comes with Libre office to do any office type work like docs, spreadsheets etc. It is fast, secure and stable. It looks and "feels" like Windows without all the Windows silly BS. Best of all...it's free!!!
