I don't know why so many get hung up on names. They made a 2 door Challenger and needed a 4 door LX platform, and something that would have a very marketable name. They couldn't do a 2 door Charger and Challenger so it made sense to make a sporty 4 door with powerful engines and market it as Charger. It was highly successful. They are into profit, not sentiment. Those Chargers of the '80's were way worse but it's about marketing.

IMO there will still be a 4 door and a decent market. The Chargers have always sold very well! Whether they have a PPV sedan is another story. Many going to SUV's but highway patrols still prefer the Charger V8 for it's manuverability and ability to catch up with a speeding vehicle. Will they be willing to try an EV???

Facts are stubborn things.
