We typically have to start heating in October. Coldest months are Jan. & Feb. I am used to heating with natural gas, so I have no idea how many gallons we use - different unit of measure. This winter, we had a couple heating bills of $380.00 per month.

we r on long island - our house is 6200sqft with a 1000 gallon tank... if i fill it in oct , i am normally good for about 3 , 3 1/2 months- BUT... the house is unoccupied in the winter (save for a weekend or two), and we keep the heat on 60F...

So if you are $3.00 a gallon, you are paying $1,000 a month for heat in the winter? SERIOUSLY?

yep... 2 winters ago, i filled it early dec, and by the end of jan/early feb i was sucking fumes.... my other home, where we live is 2200 sqft, oil heat, in a cold winter i am filling my 275gallon oil tank every 3 weeks- l
ahh the joys of home ownership....
