I work in the world of dimensional metrology so i understand gears, gear sets manufacturing etc.
Noisy gears are from poor dimensional tolerancing meaning the parts are not made to print specifications so they are essentially wearing on each other hence the noise.
Wasn't the 833 18spline known to be noisier then the 23spline? So by your statement: was the 18spline intentionally made "poorly"?
