So it’s basically junk? I can’t use a tail shaft for say a B body and make it work? [i][/i]
It's not really junk , if you swap on the proper year mainshaft ... front planet splines need to match ... and the tail housing from a donor trans it will work fine .
It may be from a 70's 4x4 that used a divorced transfer case , the motor home units usually had a drum brake on the rear of the extension housing that was used as the parking brake . I have one of them and the other parts needed to turn one into a car usable trans I'll be building sometime in the future .
