I swear by this mod that I learned about here on Moparts years ago. I'll never install a new sending unit without adding the wire first. I added the text to the picture.
Did your units work correctly with the wire and no other changes ?
Yes and No. They did, electrically. The float arm on one still needs to be bent.
When the gauge reads empty I still have 1/8 of a tank of gas in it. I fixed an original A body sending unit for a friend that I videoed showing how bad the ground was before the wire and steady after the wire.

Like the lights they have on modern cars, when 2 or glns left til empty.
And who cares if a full tank reads a smigg'in above/below the F mark.
It's not you're going to calculate your mpg per these gauges.
