I remember this broke kid that figured out he could cut the filter housing off around the outside edge of the filter holding ledge on the lower housing, then for a couple bucks could buy a stainless steel round cookie sheet of the correct diameter. poke a hole in the center of the cookie sheet, and have myself a "nice shinny open element air cleaner." The $15 or so bucks I saved by not buying the chrome air cleaner could be used to buy other parts that actually made a difference in the actual performance. It didn't help much when it got cold outside, but it sure looked cool when you opened the hood. After that, you could really hear the carb sucking air!
