They will sell them cheap to produce their own carbon credits, its better than paying Tesla mega millions every year. Thats probably the only reason why it exists
And the tax credits help. I think the thing to watch is where it's made. At $22k, I'm figuring 'Made in China' or partnered with China in some way to keep prices low. If FIAT uses Geely or Chery platforms, that helps the bottom line by a ton. That and I'd assume the tooling for the major body components are paid for, reducing costs at least a bit more.
