Flood the converter causing lockup? In normal operation the converter is full of fluid and pressurized with fluid constantly flowing through it (flooding). Fluid pressure and flow in the converter is the purview of the torque converter control valve which is a spool valve, not a check ball.

The only check ball that could remotely affect drain back is the high-pressure relief ball and it's spring loaded....not gonna "stick open".
