I like to compare/check in outdoor daylight as well as indoor light.

I recall the "buffed silver" deal, my guess is Chrysler felt obligated to get a better reflection.
Most light metallic enamels in that era didn't have the reflection of darker or non-metallic colors, especially silver.
Knocking down the texture a bit helps with that, of course. Plus, marketing !
