Wasn’t there a thread recently about eBay now requiring sellers to give their SSN to them?
It’s getting to the point where someone who just wants to unload spare stuff or get rid of some clutter can’t sell online any longer due to the tax hassles.
For businesses selling online they already presumably are set up for taxes and have records of their purchases and sales revenues along with expenses so it is business as usual. For the guy who is just trying to sell some parts they’ve had gathering dust on a shelf for years, old toys, signs etc who knows how much they paid years ago or if they even came out ahead selling the stuff, so how do you calculate figures for tax purposes?
Back to the old days of selling at swap meets I guess. Though some of those venues require information for the tax authorities too I’ve heard.
