Sprinkle it with a few boxes (yes, a few) of baking soda, let it sit, then use a shop vac to vacuum it all up. You might have to rub the backing sode into the carpet with a stiff brush, but don't get it wet, do it dry.

If you can pull the carpet out, even better. Is there moisture trapped under the carpet and in the jute padding? If it's in the jute padding, remove it and get some new jute. Once that soaks up moisture and gets funky, it's not coming out.
