I've never had a problem with AutoMeter or their cheaper AutoGage units, though I prefer mechanical.
My thinking is the mechanical is more direct, and independent of a possible electrical issue or affectation.
I also prefer white on black rather than decorative gauges, easier to read at a glance.
But if I had a street rod or something like that, the "in period" gauges are attractive.
For something that has to appear dead stock, I've attached the gauge bracket with Velcro, but frankly it was kinda awkward and I eventually gave up on it.
