I will mention, you can do a return line/dead head system hybrid. I often use this on my return systems where I switch between carb & throttle body. So I typically run the return line from the regulator down on the frame rail, but then run it dead head up to the throttle body or carb. I typically do this on throttle body systems as opposed to full on efi system with fuel rails. Works really well. Potentially, you could still vapor lock it, so I run a heat shield over the dead headed section.

Some other tricks:

Paint the intake with a heat blocking paint.
Stack a few carb gaskets underneath the carb.
Holley carb heat shield
Heat shield all the fuel lines
Phenolic carb spacer
