Thanks
After thinking about it a little more, I realized that Harley sells wrinkle paint so it must be used on exterior surfaces quite often. A Google search brought up lots of Harleys with wrinkle painted finishes.

I have a used set of 68 Dart GTS hood inserts. They were repainted badly in the past and the chrome is pitted. I'm thinking about doing something custom with them. My initial thought was to wrap the lower plates with carbon fiber vinyl. I bought some cheap stuff just to test but it doesn't stick to the sharp recessed corners and lifts. It does look good though from a distance with the upper section installed. That got me to thinking about wrinkle paint. The texture would hide the pitting in the chrome and might look cool. If it doesn't end up looking good, I'll buy the reproductions.

Here is what the QQ1 paint spray out looks like against the carbon fiber vinyl. Looks good but doesn't stick. Maybe the 3M stuff would conform and stick better?
