Yes they can. I have one set that I am currently using on the fifth different cam in two different engines......and still going currently @ 170# seat and 400# open.

I do have bushed lifter bores.....I think one thing that gets people in trouble with current .904 lobes (and corresponding rates of lift) is not correcting lifter bore locations. In the old days of .842 and maybe a .875 lobe, one could get away with a slightly off lifter bore location combined with the lower spring pressures required with a slower rate of lift.
