I made some small changes to my S/P bracket car this winter after causing a direct short to the alternator wire going to the battery which melted it and causing some other damages to the wiring and C.O. 2 lines and to the alternator. I replace the burnt #10 wire with a #4 and grounded the new 100 amp Powermaster alternator with #4 wire also like the tech. at Powemaster said to do it wrench
I leaked it down and reset the timing and check the valve lash, nothing hurt or off after running it last year boogie
I swapped out the front steel Koni single adjustable coil over shocks to a new set of Afco aluminum double adjustable coil overs(Thanks Al for the help up) I also replaced the plug and coil wires with new Taylor 8MM
I decided to add some 99.0 pure ethanol to my E85 pump fuel to raise it to make E90 and I bought a new set of Goodyear 15x33x15 slicks replacing the Hoosiers 13.5x32x15 that wouldn't consistently hook my car.
I took the car to Yakima WA , Renegade drag strip on Friday and was able to make two runs and two more on Saturday, It threw the alternator belt off on every run rant Friday they opened the pits at 6.00 PM and started running around 7.00 PM
The water box kid had me to far forward on the first pass on the right hand lane, passenger side tire was on dry pavement causing the car to go hard right at the start of the burn out ruining that run, second run wasn't much better spinning the tires on the line and it didn't pull hard after that either that either. I tried 10.0 lbs. in the tires for both runs. 1st run numbers .229 reaction time blush1.426 60 ft.,4.031 330 ft.,6.209 1/8 mile at 112.69 MPH, 8.091 1000 Ft., 9.688 et at 140.82. I had forgot to check the sift RPM in the box, nothing in it, so I had to shift it manually at 7500 RPM realcrazy Junk run with a bad burn out down whineyshruggy
The second run was a little bit better but I hadn't seen the alternator belt was off so it wasn't very good run either. Better burn out helped with a .002 reaction time with a 1.365 60 ft. down, 330 ft. was 3.934, 660 Ft 6.102 at 113.23 MPH, 1000 ft. was 9.559, 1/4 mile ET 9.559 at 142.31 with the alternator belt off. I didn't try charging the batteries between runs realcrazy
I stop testing after the second run due to it was cold and damp and the weather getting worse and close to dark and I didn't want to work on the car in the dark so I went to out eat and back to the motel.
They where opening the track at 12:30 PM on Saturday and I managed to get in around 11:00 AM to work on the car, I pulled all the plugs and found two bad ones, #8 was really black and #3 had the center porclyn was broken off in the plug and missing shock
All the rest of them looked good so I put them back in replacing the two bad ones.
I changed the jetting up two jet sizes from last year, 93 in the front and 103 in the back to 95 and 105. 1st run on Saturday resulted in a .016 reaction time with a 1.389 60Ft time,3.965 330 ft.,6,123 1/8 mile at 113.79 MPH , 7.999 at 1000 Ft with 9.579 ET at 141,77 MPH down it didn't leave hard or pull hard during that run, it had thrown the alternator belt off again whiney I played the run back on my box and it shifted at 7300 RPM and crossed the finish line at 7650 RPM, time to move the low gear shift RPM up to 7500 RPM maybe work
When they called for the second time trail it didn't want to start right away and acted like the 5 yr old batteries where low dragging the starter down so I decided to not make that run and try the time only run lane later. I checked the battery voltage and it was reading 12.67, I hooked the jumper cables up to my truck and charge the car batteries for around 20 minutes before getting into the time only lane. I normally charge the batteries for two or more days on my 4 amp charger to top them off but I forgot to do that before loading the car into the trailer Thursday afternoon blush
That run was ended up with a .029 reaction time, 1.391 60 Ft, 3.937 330 ft., 6.083 1/8 mile at 113.98 MPH whiney The track had decided to make the all 1/8 mile runs after the first time trials due to the wind blowing across the track more than they liked so no 1/4 mile times for the rest of day.
I decide to stop torturing the car do to the alternator belt coming off on every run after the second run and took it home
Time to fix the alternator alignment issue and try again next week, hopefully at our local 1/8 mile track in Madras, OR luck
It ran a best of 5.50 at 120.+ MPH at Madras last year before the changes work
I'll leak it down again and go from there luck
EDITED
I started working on my car this afternoon, I found # 4 spark plug wire off work I'm not sure If it fell off on the first run Saturday afternoon after I removed all the plugs and found two bad ones in #8 and #3 or if it fell off putting it in the trailer Saturday afternoon after the last run shruggy
Maybe there is hope after all luck
I'm planning on working on aligning the alternator better to the crank pulley to help keep the belt on luck
I'm hoping to run it this weekend at Madras, God willing and the Creeks don't rise whistling
