I'm not sure, lol. As fast as I'm going and the sometimes high and long wheelstands, it stands to reason that a rear sump pan would be better. So far the center sump pan I've been running has not been a problem and N2Omstr (Tony) runs a center sump pan on his car...he's a good bit faster than me and has had no issues.
It's more of an insurance thing, but I don't want a huge low hanging pan on the car. It doesn't need 10+ quarts to be happy, it just needs about 7.5 or 8 quarts in the right place.

I bought the pan in the picture by the way. Eventually I plan to cut it up and shorten the sump so it doesn't decapitate fireants on the highway.
