A carb can be tuned to run good and get decent MPG. I put lots of time and effort into my 830 carb for drag week. It paid off in decent fuel economy. That process of learning to tune all ranges of a carb pushed me to EFI though. I have done 6 drag weeks total 2 of them with EFI.

With EFI instead of going home and drilling bleeds and changing jets I just pull over in a parking lot and type in the change I want to make.
