Thanks to some good leads, I discovered my Mitsubishi-built Colt's ECU has been internally damaged by a leaking capacitor. In my research on this subject, I found out that many Chrysler vehicles have been plagued by this issue, including the Dodge Stealth. Some of my info came from Stealth/3000GT forums and sites, in fact. Here's one: http://www.stealth316.com/2-ecmremoval.htm
Although the exact years affected aren't written in stone, it appears that we're talking late-80's to early- or mid-90's. I'm passing this along in case it helps others track down any strange problems, including intermittent driveability issues.

I just ordered some caps for my ECU today, the obvious bad one plus 3 others as a precaution - caps are cheap! I have some board repair to do because of the corrosion damage, but hopefully this will take care of the injector problem. I'll post a few pics here. First one shows the offending cap at center. Orientation: left side is "up" in vehicle, so the leaking electrolyte ran to the right in picture ("down").
