1969 was the change over year(some early cars had the clutch types) on the posi units from the Dana clutch type with the center pins to the spring type cup and cone style without them. The later style has springs inside that can be seen from the hole in the carrier. The clutch style carriers are two piece that bolt together and the alter style is cast in one piece with one side open to put the interior parts inside them
OP, you can use a flashlight from one side of the rear end housing to look inside it to see if the axle adjusting end pins are in there or not. If there is a hole in the center with no parts laying inside the splined part of the posi unit on that side you may need to look on the other side
