The back story on my buddy's car from yesterday is one we will talk about for a long time.....For purposes of this we will him Paul Koval....

He generally doesn't race a lot and his stuff sits around for years until he decides to go......Well this year already he killed a 915 head on his stroker motor and we pulled that. Found a crack right between the valves on one cylinder. Till we found it, we put his back up 440 +.03 back in. It was fresh and ready to go.

First out a couple weeks ago, it broke a rocker shaft in half.....

This week with new rocker shaft in place, his tach fried it seems pulling it off the trailer or somewheres....I tried in vain to see if it was the wiring, but climbing under the dash and re-wiring it to new power wire and tracing it all out and checking connections yielded nothing....Decision, run it.

Car goes a new best of 7.32 in the 1/8th with a warm 440, but gets flagged for oil on the track...

So we put it up on the trailer, and there is oil ever where...can't locate a source....Brakleen it all up and I notice he has oil on the back of the bell housing....Follow that up to the top of the engine, and wella, the oil pressure gauge copper tube and fitting is leaking as there is a puddle up there....Touched it with my hand to see if its tight, and it breaks right off.....Can't find one of those stupid little ferules not already crimped to a line...I put in an 1/8th pipe plug and now we have no oil pressure gauge or leak.....Decision, run it.

Now he gets threw the next time trial and track safety scrutinized the car and he makes his run. Another low 7.30 time slip....

So that is our two time trials and they set the ladder, he gets his notice that he is racing the Pinto I ran earlier in TT.....15 min before they call us, with the car just sitting there, the left front tire goes completely flat and is sitting on the rim.....

He is now really ready to give up.....I pull out the jack, another guy pulls out an electric impact, and we pull the bald front runner off.....Other front tire has tread, this one is bald with a big hole in it....The question, when was this car last aligned? Answer, in 20 years, never....I use up one of my last tire plugs and we fill it with air...looks like it will hold. Trim the plug back a little and put it back on the car.....Decision, run it.

Well due to other unforeseen circumstances, his guy he is supposed to race goes home....Now Paul gets the bye into round 2.....Car makes another low 7.30 pass....

2nd round, Paul goes out on a slow reaction time...night over with....He even messed up the GoPro settings so I have no video of his yestarday......

Here is a vid at TNT with the fresh 440 back up engine break in pass while the stroker gets freshened.......
