I always put the piston up top when doing this, that way if you lose air you don't lose the valve.

I know a guy that actually had the rope method get tangled up and it caused him real hell trying to avoid tearing the motor down to get it out.


Yeah, Murphy in action. Nothing is fool proof. But I had never seen or heard of a problem with the rope.......until now.

I have, however, seen problems with air leaking off and letting the valve get too far into the cylinder.
