I can happily report that I've been using our 'o3 since I bought it used for towing regularly including several (>15) long distant trips moving while loaded to the gills. Also, regularrly use it towing a laden travel trailer while on vacations, hunting trips and other journeys. All w/o dwd. I've never had an issue and just eclipsed 200k mi adding over 130k from when I bought it. I keep up on maintenance and change the diff oil and additive (have a factory locking 3.73). The diff is noted to be "free floating".
Depending on what you're using it for I would go with the stock diff and save your # for if there is a problem. I've not heard a lot of issues from other owners.
