The hood on my 71 Road Runner opens and closes fine. However, the hood does NOT like to stay up. If the hood is up and I start the car, it'll come crashing down before I can even get out of the car and back out front.  What's up with that?
I vaguely remember someone telling me once that hinges are different too - meaning that flat hood hinges weren't as strong as say Air Grabber hinges. So if you had a flat hood car, added an Air Grabber hood - the hinges wouldn't hold the hood up. Maybe THIS is your dilemma...
