I have to agree.
In the 80's I bought half a dozen NOS, two without radio opening, more silver paint looking than chrome.
Even used ones found today have silver paint


They should be chrome. As the chrome faded most just got touched up with silver paint. Here's an nos piece as well as an assembly line picture.
