My friend bought an 81 short bed half ton 4x4 dodge truck with a 727 and 318.
He serviced the transmission with a new filter and pan gaske and put Type f trans fluid in it.
For months the truck performed flawlessly, transmission was shifting quick and firm.
Then one day he's driving and all a sudden the engine just starts revving and he isn't going forward anymore.
None of the forward gears will work but reverse will work.
I pulled the transmission dip stick out and the fluid is a little darker then it should be and there is a hint of burnt smell, the same type of smell you get when your running a die grinder and cutting metal.
What do you suppose happened? Forward clutch pack toast?
I jut don't get why reverse works and none of the forward gears do.
It's really bizzar.
