You're wearing yourself out. I had a recent customer with the same issue - he couldn't get the converter in no matter what. It turned out to be the inner rotor was all the way down at 6 O'clock and the impeller hub was catching that ridge in the inner pump rotor. If you don't want to take the pump out try standing the trans up on the output shaft - take a clean small screwdriver and insert it past the pump seal and turn the inner rotor until the tangs are at 6 and 12 O'clock then line up the notches in the impeller hub the same way and slowly install the converter. It shouldn't take much to get the converter to fall in to the pump.
