The reverse lockouts I am familiar with from back in the day were made by hurst and consisted of a sliding plate assembly that was sandwiched between the shifter and trans. It was designed to prevent catching the Neutral gate when power shifting between 1st and second. They sold a kit for factory type shifters and the super shifters came with them as I recall. They could be left in the blocked or unblocked position. I consider them mandatory for 4 spd cars that are driven hard.
the super shifters also normally come with a short stick. cruising through Hurst catalog would usually provide one with a suitable stick for the application. One normally could also adapt the stock handle with some effort
