I have not painted an engine above rattle canning and I would like to provide a durable finish to my 5.7L Hemi.

Currently the engine has been cleaned and is in pretty darn good shape for painting. I plan on assembling it in the upcoming few weeks, cleaning it,masking and apply paint over the heads, timing cover and block.

  • Is it typical to apply a primer to an engine? If so, what kind?
  • What type of paint should be used for this application? Urethane? Enamel? Lacquer? I am looking for long lasting shine and durability against fuel, oil, brake clean, etc., OEM correctness is not important.
  • Clear coat?
