Dave- the '71 air cleaner came both ways. Wrinkle or regular black. I looked at many originals before I had mine powder coated in black wrinkle. I found more that had a standard black painted finish, but since my original was long gone, I decided to go with wrinkle since I like it😬

I agree the wrinkle looks better. Probably the way I'll go.
The reason I asked the pie tin question is I was thinking that they may not have used any thing on the air cleaner as it wasn't installed in what is a traditional muscle car like a GTX ,Road runner ect. This being a HP 383 in a Sebring Plus.

It's a hard question to answer as there just isn't enough information on them. And just looking at a survivor car may not do it since someone could have added the pie tin along the way or even when the car was new. One thing I can tell you is that the pie tin for my 1968 Barracuda Formula S 383 says "383 Commando" and not Super Commando. The Super Commando tin was for larger cars.

In the end, do what you want with the pie tin. You can always take it off or tell people to prove that it isn't correct if they don't like it.
