This has been argued to the point of delirium everywhere in the world. I can tell you that you are applying a band aid where you need an amputation. Find an aftermarket block and be done with it. Cheaper in the long run.

The Aluminum caps route has seemed to work for my junk over the years. I always thought Girdles were for girls but I could be wrong.
A couple of my deals have been north of 750 NA so take that for what it is worth, not much.

10# on a 500hp deal should not hurt a stock block with good fasteners and a set of after market caps.
