As some of you might know, I do some work on friends cars / parts for their Mopars. Recently a friend of mine asked me if I would be able to change out his windshield since he had a crack in it and knew I had done a couple of them with no issues. He couldn't find any place who would use the correct 3M bedding and glazing compound. All of the glass places up here want to use the urethane sealer which will ruin your rubber gasket and my experience has only had them leak.
Reluctantly I accepted the job (as installing glass seems to be some form of art!) and he ordered new tinted windshield from ECS to keep with the original markings on the glass which were there before. We also picked up a new gasket from Dante's to assist in making the installation a little easier since the old gasket was fairly hard. This was now my 4th windshield installation so as you can imagine, I was pretty nervous doing the job. I've had issues with other glass sealing or not being thick enough which left a gap in the rubber gasket. The best I had ever used (till that day) glass wise, was PPG. I was very impressed by the quality of the ECS windshield glass as it was the same thickness as the original one that we pulled out of the car and even had the same markings as what the original did. The logo etching was probably the icing on the cake and certainly complimented the rest of the car since if we went with a PPG, the windshield would have been the only incorrect piece of glass on the car. The biggest problem area I had was the upper corners, however, that has always been the problematic area for me whenever I did them. Most likely due to the curvature of the glass. To be honest, I've heard good things about ECS glass from other people. However, I like to see things for myself and besides the crack in the old original glass and the delamination in the corners, you couldn't tell the difference between the two. Kudos to them on making another great product.
When we were just about finished doing the job, my friends neighbor came over to see what we were doing (he owns a 65 Mustang Vert and a 69 Mustang Boss 302 not that I'll hold it against him !) and mentioned to me that he heard of ECS as he had an article saved on his computer pertaining to ECS glass. This was the article he forwarded to me. I never knew the magnitude of information that ECS had about glass.
