What temperature thermostat should I use, and how will it help me?
nothing lower than 180. An engine wears rapidly when it is cold & a stat shortens that interval as much as possible & a 180 or even a 195 gives much better atomization of the fuel. I personally vigorously disagree that a stat(or a restrictor)in & of itself will cool an eng better by slowing the water speed down because it is a CLOSED system & if one quantity of water is cooled more because it is held there longer than the next unit of water behind it is picking up MORE heat & it all reaches an equilibrium & any claims to the contrary are due to other variables being changed like water pump pulley speed or ambient temp. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/Twocents.gif)
