I actually had the exact opposite problem. The pinion snubber broke and I didn't know it. The car kept breaking tailshaft housings/loosing bushings/etc...

I found the broken snubber, put it back in, and never had another trans problem again.

I will admit that the car had a slightly short drive shaft, but basically the snubber prevented the axle from winding up, and pulling the driveshaft out. This was on an 11.80's 340 duster...
