Pretty sure it's a different engine than the Liberty, they used a Mercedes diesel I think, 1500 uses a Fiat diesel
That's correct, the liberty used a 2.8L engine, been a long time, I think the emissions control scheme and something else I've forgotten made it less than desirable. The new EcoDiesel was developed for one of the European Cadillac but wasn't used, can't recall why. So far I've heard nothing but good about it.
For comparison, my '96 Cummins was 5.9L, 180 hp, 420 torque, my '01 is 245 hp, 505 torque, very similar power ratings at half the engine size.
