I think the Spring Special hood treatment was just the scoops.
I've only looked at one A40 SB, it had black scoops, no stripes. This was around 1990. IIRC, the tag had both A40 (vinyl top SS) and V21 (black scoops). I always though V21 was for a hood stripe, this car had none.
