I bought all new harness for my 68 except for the main dash harness. They weren't very expensive. They are M&H harnesses bought through Year One. I waited until YO had a 30% off sale.

If you are adding any other electrical loads that weren't there from the factory, it's a good idea to use relays and upgrade the factory harnesses in a few places.

Best bang for the buck depends on how you value your time... I went the M&H/Y1 route on mine also. The harness(es) are more expensive than generic but lay right in and hook up as original. You can also use the FSM for service which is nice. I too changed/upgraded a few portions, mostly the charge circuit, so alternator current does not pass through the bulkhead connector.
