I did my own and it came out pretty good. The key is to start with a good core (i.e., not severely pitted). I picked up 5 gallon bucket of evapo rust and some PVC tube. Capped one end of the tube, put the drive shaft in along with the evaporust and let it sit for a while. Came out looking like new. Coated it with RPM.

If you have significant pitting, then you will need to have it polished. Pics below are as pulled from the car, pulled from evaporust, and after clean up (pre-polishing).
