That's about right.

Points of comparison are a pair of '99s - my buddy's 5.2/4WD/3.92s that he bought new (and still has) and my former 5.9/4WD/3.55s

Mileage was worse with 235/75/15 snows than with the 31s - an upgrade to the later 16" rims with a narrow tread and low rolling resistance tire would probably help.

The Durangos are heavy - 5500# IIRC and larger than the Grand Cherokees. Though for whatever reason they seem to be disproportionately hard on fuel for what they are.
