A good friend has been nursing a 95 Ram 2500 CTD back to life. The transmission was glued together was what appeared to be a mix of burned motor oil residue and weasel snot. We went completely through the transmission and got it running again. Due to the contamination we fully disassembled the valve body to remove the caked on goo inside it. The two solenoids were replaced as well.

The transmission only has a handful of miles on it since the rebuild.

Yesterday, he took the truck out and everything was operating normally. He commented on it's smooth shifting. During the drive he had to brake abruptly. After that event he lost drive and reverse. The truck only runs in low and second gear now.

He's bringing it over tomorrow so we can put it in my shop and check it out.
Other than something screwy happening with the linkage what could be causing this condition?

My first thought was something in the valve body preventing the front clutch from engaging.
Where would you guys suggest looking?
