I'll respect your opinion, however, not so sure about the correctness of the term "seal", however a case might be made it insulates it, how much, I suspect not much, I suspect a coat of oil/grease/grime might insulate it more, and being painted would be easier to clean, and while we are splitting hairs, a black color will radiate more heat then a lighter color, and lighter color will reflect more heat from hotter nearby surfaces, all to the point, can't believe the OP would ever notice any difference no matter what he chooses.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.
