Is a Belleville a washer? Mike

The clutch in the rear of the transmission is also called the forward clutch since it is engaged in all forward gears. In neutral or reverse it should be disengaged. This is a picture of the Belleville spring in the rear clutch. It is easy to crack, especially the early versions. It is roughly 7 inches in diameter.

I like to keep the clearance in this clutch tight, about 0.025" to 0.035". But too tight and it will drag. But a broken Belleville spring or other binding will drag in neutral/reverse.
